Coolest 13th Birthday Basketball Cake

This cake was created for my nephews 13th birthday who is a huge Lakers fan. Making a cake for a 13 year old boy is not easy. The cake is a two layer dark chocolate cake with a peanut butter/buttercream filling. The cake had to be leveled so that the players would stand easily on the cake. The entire cake was iced using the same peanut butter/buttercream. Then a layer of light brown fondant was rolled and textured to look like a gym floor. The Lakers logo was created from hand-cut rolled fondant. The basketball court details were also hand-cut from rolled fondant. Purple and yellow icing was piped around the edges for a clean look. The basketballs were cut from rolled fondant and a cookie cutter. They are also textured to have a "basketball" feel. In addition, the lines were drawn on using edible markers. "Happy Birthday, Donavin" was cut from matching fondant and placed on the cake board. The players and basketball hoops were purchased and placed on the cake to finish it off. This was one of my first attempts for a cake and took over 8 hours! It was well worth it for the birthday boy! Score!
