Harry Potter Birthday Party Invitations
One great child birthday party idea for Harry Potter invitations could be a realistic looking invitation to Hogwarts School of Wizardry.
To do this write "You are being summoned to the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Please attend on (the date) to celebrate the birthday of our Master Wizard (your child's name). You will be given a test in Defense Against the Dark Arts when you arrive. Here is your clue to help you succeed." You can then include hint to one of the games you will be playing such as a bag of candy or a magic wand.
To make them look more official, add a Hogwarts School of Wizardry header and include sayings like "Send the RSVP with your owl." The paper can be aged by dipping it in tea after you have finished and allowing it to dry.
Other invitation ideas for a Harry Potter birthday party make the invitation to look like an article in the Daily Prophet (the wizard newspaper). All you need to do is to print out the announcement below a picture of your child dressed in a Harry Potter costume made from a pair of Harry Potter kids glasses and a Harry Potter & Gryffindor kids costume. To make the paper look like newsprint, either rub the paper with newspaper or rub black chalk onto the paper with a cotton ball.
You can also make invitations on a velvet-covered paper and add pictures of a castle, stars, moons, and even a wizard's pointed hat. To include a map to the party location, make a "Marauder's Map." (It cannot be opened without a tap from a magic wand!)

Harry Potter Party Decorations
For a Harry Potter birthday party, one great child birthday party idea is to make your own Harry Potter banners along with a Wizard personalized banner.
For Hogwart's banners, Slytherin is a silver serpent on a green background, Gryffindor is a red background with a gold colored lion, a blue background with a bronze-toned eagle represents Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff is a black badger on a yellow background. Another great wall decoration is to get a large picture of a castle blown up and printed onto cardboard. "Hogwarts" can then be hung on the wall as well
The Harry Potter party pack is ideal for the feasting table. They come complete with eight settings of Harry Potter birthday party plates, cutlery, and cups that look magical on the tablecloth and napkins included in the pack. The matching decorations such as confetti, ribbon, crepe paper, and balloon work well to finish off the room.
The Harry Potter centerpiece can be placed in the center of the snack table and you can even include a few Hedwigs or Harry Potter lanterns. To add to the feel of the room, you can lower the lights and use strobe lights, static lights, and dark sounding classical music. If you would like to give each wizard some treats, use cauldron candy cups.

Harry Potter Party Icebreaker Activities
What draws in so many people and kids especially to the whole theme and to wanting a Harry Potter birthday party is the fact that he goes on so many magical adventures. That's what the books and the movies are about and that's what keeps kids so intrigued. If you want to create your own whimsical adventure for the kids, then think about turning this into a great Harry Potter party icebreaker that the kids can enjoy. You can create something as simple as a scavenger hunt but center it around themes, characters and actual adventures from the movie. Have them search for items that are part of the movie but make them household items. This is easy enough to put together around your house and the kids will feel as though they are on their own whimsical adventures from the start.
Kids who love Harry Potter juts can't get enough of the movies. They can watch them over and over and because there is so much of a plot and so much involved information, they will likely want to discuss it all with their friends. If this sounds like your own little wizard, then why not turn this into the best Harry Potter party icebreaker? You can set up the movies to run one right after another and turn this into a sleepover birthday party. The kids can watch the movies, eat their snacks, and curl up comfortably to watch their favorite movie characters and empire together. They will surely have lots to discuss and though this is easy for you to put together, the kids will just love it.
Dress As Your Favorite Character
This doesn't have to be much, but it can be loads of fun. You can either invite guests to come dressed as their favorite character or put out some of the basic but fundamental elements. The kids who love these movies will be way into dressing up as the part and therefore they will simply adore this Harry Potter party icebreaker. Many of the people who love the movies so much are the ones that will go dressed up to the movie premiers and now you can give your kids the chance to do this on their own. If they are dedicated and hard core about Harry Potter then they will likely have their own ideas of what the costume could be. You could even get them started with something as simple as the wizard robe and the classic glasses. It doesn't have to be totally over the top and chances are that you will have to follow their cues.
This is bound to be a fun Harry Potter party icebreaker because the kids get to feel like they are going through their own version of wizard school. You can invite them to come to wizard school on the invitations and the fun starts early on. Then you can set up different stations where the kids learn various wizard skills. Have them save a princess, beat off the evil forces, jump through hoops, climb through mountains (hill in the backyard), and let your imagination run wild. This can really be like a glamorized obstacle course but in order for them to become wizards they must pass all of the different stages of the school. This keeps with the theme and is so fun to do that the kids will love it from the start!
Harry Potter Birthday Party Foods
Cakes - A Harry Potter birthday party cake can include any number of ideas including:
1) A Harry Potter cake kit makes an ease scene of Hogwarts. Spread the base icing on smooth with a spatula. (To get rid of knife lines, finish off by making the icing knife wet. Then in one motion, from one end of the cake to the other, lightly drag the knife across the top. A flat or shell tip can then be used to make the border around the top and along the bottom.
2) Another great child birthday party idea is a castle cake also fits well into the Harry Potter theme.
To do this, make two 9 x 13 cakes. The first one can be trimmed and laid onto a large cake board. Then, cut the other one in half to make 2 pieces that are about 9 x 6.5. The one piece can be cut into strips to make towers. The other piece can be cut into triangles to make the tower caps. It can then be coated with grey icing and finished off by dragging a serrated knife very lightly to make a worn pattern. Black icing is great for making windows and you can use the flat tip to make window ledges.
You can then use a toothpick to draw out stones and other castle details. Around the sides and along the bottom of the castle, make clouds with whip cream and a large round tip.
How about a heap of cat litter? Mix a cup of pancake mix and hard cheese with one pound of hamburger this can then be made into the "cat poop". Lay the "poop" on the top of the "Litter," which is actually a bed of white rice.
"Slug egg soup" is another great option. Use tomato soup with pot barley and some finely chopped vegetables.
- Mix up several colors of juice and let the little wizards mix their own potions by mixing the juices together with different kinds of Pop Rock candy.
- Make "goblet of fire" drinks by mixing vanilla ice cream and Sprite pop into a parfait glass and adding red food color.
- If you would like to make a punch, clean a latex glove, fill it about three-quarters full with water and food coloring, and lay it flat on a cookie sheet after tying it shut. Once they have been frozen, they can be removed from the gloves and added to the punch.
- Buy chocolate frogs or make them in a candy mould.
- Meringues make great caterpillar cocoons.
- Make or purchase macaroons and call them "cockroach cookies".
