My Husband's 50th Birthday Party

by E. Annette Forsythe

When my husband turned 50, we did the funeral theme...death of his youth. We had the RIP tombstone cake and the traditional gag gifts.

The one thing that made this party unique was the casket that we constructed out of plywood. I hot glued a white satin material inside to look like a casket liner and we placed the 'coffin' on the counter and put the dishes of food inside to serve as the buffet.

We place flowers and a blown-up pic of my husband (from the early years) at the head of the coffin.

He thought it was a hilarious touch to the evening.

Love the theme

I wanted to respond to Anonymous. I think you might need a funeral for your since of humor. Lighten up, life is to short to write silly things like that. Didn't your mother ever tell you, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all?
I love this idea. It sounds like you enjoyed yourself. I will be attending a 50th Funeral Themed party in Oct. Can't wait! My sister is really going all out.

Not such a good idea
by: Anonymous

If my children threw a funeral party for my 50t Birthday, I would be mortified to say the least. Life at 50, in my opinion, is the beginning, not the end of "my youth".
A Coffin buffet setting, not on YOUR life!

This is great!

I'm throwing a 50th bday party for my mom and want to do a funeral theme. We actually have a friend that owns a funeral home and we may be able to borrow an old coffin from him. Did you have any other ideas that worked well? I like the coffin buffet idea.
