Summer Luau Party

This was a Luau party to remember.

Before everyone arrived I decorated the outside deck/yard with tons of cool Luau themed decorations to set the mood. I brought out tables to put all the Hawaiian styled food on and also added some more "normal" eats for those unadventurous folks.

I set up a kareoke machine and a sound system hooked up to my laptop. In the yard, I brought out couches from the garage for maximum guest comfort and set up beer pong and flip cup tables.

As everyone arrived they got "laied" ;-) and were offered other items to dress up in if they so pleased (grass skirts/shell bra's/Hawaiian shirts). They were shown where the food was set up and directed towards beer and homemade margaritas (special recipe that is absolutely delicious).

As the afternoon wore on, more and more guests arrived and we got the music pumping. We ended up having an intense and rather funny dance contest on the deck followed by a "best of" kareoke tribute. I awarded trophies (old soccer/basketball ones I received when I was younger) to the best dancer, the best singer, and then of course...the most entertaining (see picture attached!).

A beer pong tournament ended up with the two best teams competing for the title in a triple overtime situation! For 10 minutes or so almost everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the match and a few guests even broke into a chant for two of the people playing.

Once things calmed down a bit we started grilling food (shiskobobs) and started up the fire pit on the other end of the yard so people could make smores.

The Luau party went on till late in the evening - the result of a very fun time. We ended up having about 8 or so people spend the night and we made an awesome brunch in the morning before people took off. We pulled out the kitchen table and everyone sat around it together and reminised about the previous night. It was a great ending to a great party with great people. It was a lot of work but I'm going to do it all over again next year!
